10 May EZGReece organises Greece’s largest triathlon
Ironman 70.3 Greece, Costa Navarino, etched its name into history with a great success!
Messinia and Costa Navarino provided a spectacular backdrop to the 1,500 athletes who tested their limits during Greece’s first ever Ironman 70.3 race. The grueling triathlon, which was held in April, saw 61 different nationalities coming together to conquer 1.9 km swimming, 90 km cycling and 21 km running. Mexico’s Juliana Villasante and Costa Rica’s Ernesto Espinoza won this edition of IRONMAN 70.3 Greece, Costa Navarino.
Race Director, Mike Argiris, said: “In this journey of preparation for the IRONMAN 70.3 Greece, Costa Navarino, I felt like a traveler in turbulent, uncharted waters. But this is how history is written! Messinia is now in the world map of sport events and Costa Navarino sealed its success in Greek tourism. The greatest swimming race has ever been made in Greece, was held in its waters and in its land, the biggest bike and run race … and all this three together! The cultural value of this place changed forever and we -my incredible team and I – we were the initiators for this historic development. We feel gratitude and enthusiasm; however, we still have not arrived in Ithaca. A fascinating travel just begun.”
The triathlon, together with the high level hospitality, which included food and the Peloponnese natural beauty was an unforgettable experience for all participants and the 4,500 guests that attended.
“A year and a half ago, when we decided together with EYZΗΝ to bring the IRONMAN 70.3 in Greece, that was a big bet that we won. It was an amazing organization and all athletes and participants were left with the excellent experience, indicating the possibilities of the development of sports tourism in our country,” said Stefanos Theodoridis, Managing Consultant of TEMES – developer of Costa Navarino.
“IRONMAN 70.3 Greece, Costa Navarino, might be already in the past, but Messinia, Peloponnese and Greece won a podium to the modern sports history. Many congratulations to all athletes for their amazing effort and a big thank you to the Prefecture of Peloponnese, Ministry of Tourism, Hellenic Organization of Tourism, Municipality of Pylos – Nestoros and Trifylias, Hellenic Pedathlon Federation, The National Bank of Greece, Elpedison, ΚOSMOCAR –SKODA, Bioiatriki, Vikos, OPAP Chistodoulou Family, GU Energy Greece, Pharmacy 295 and of course the local community for the trust and the valuable cooperation and support,” said Thanassis Papadimitriou, CEO ΕΥΖΗΝ and President of the Organizing Committee Πρόεδρος Ι.Q.Sports.
IRONMAN 70.3 Greece, Costa Navarino was held at one of the world’s awarded tourist destinations on April 11-14 2019 and organised by our dmc partners in Greece.
